Books at My Stations

Stations? Yes, stations. I read in short segments (3-5 minutes) and can't seem to find the time to finish one book. I have tried many times and end up losing the dang thing because I tote it along with me throughout the house depending on where I am needed. Then it gets lost in the shuffle. ugh. By the time I find it again - I forget what happened or what was said and I have to start all over again. When you do that 5 - 6 times a book it gets pretty freaking annoying. SO I have developed a new method that works for me and I get to finish multiple books at a time and never loose a book! My stations are places that I find myself sitting throughout the day to nurse, rest, or do my business (ya'll know what I'm talking about!). At this moment I have 4 books that I'm flipping through.

1.

Raising Your Spirited Child has helped a great deal with understanding my first born. At first I couldn't understand why she was sooooooooo-oooooooo emotional about things. If she was happy - she was reallllllly happy and if not you felt it. She fit the description of a spirited child almost to a T and since reading this book - our relationship and how I handle her meltdowns has been better. I try to not be that mom who constantly yells and I felt like time-outs and taking her toys away was just not working that well anymore. This book connected with my second book have made a world of difference. Which leads me to my second book....

2.

Setting Limits With Your Strong-Willed Child. This book has helped my whole family and how I discipline the kiddos. The whole "establishing clear, firm, and respectful boundaries" really works! Who'd thunk it? Maybe I just needed a refresher on how to discipline but whatever the need - I'm glad I have it and I think I might just throw it in as a new baby gift to all parents. This method works for all children. It 's keeping me from becoming a maniac who screams at her kids to pick up the darn toys or put their shoes on or... you get the point...

3.

The Urban Homestead: Your Guide to Self-Sufficient Living in the Heart of the City. I dream of owning a farm one day with a couple pigs, some chickens, and maybe some Highland Cattle - with a huge garden that we pull our fruits and veggies from. Until that day, I read homesteading, farming, and gardening books and look to make any yard that we will own an edible landscape no matter what the size. There is just something so fulfilling to have your children go outside and pick some berries to have with breakfast.

4.

On the advice of Simcha Fisher I put this book on my wish list and Ryan got it for me for a present. I have reread the beginning about ummmm 7 times. This is one of those books that I kept losing so I've decided to keep it in one place and try to finish it there. Let's see if I get through it this time. I am starting all over from the beginning and I hope to finish it this time. Will let you know if I do!

Here they are! If you have any recommendations shoot them my way. I'm always looking for another book to read.
