We started by taking a long drive down some back country roads to Lexington - stopping by any notable gun store along the way. It seems that Northern Kentucky has a lack of decent or clean gun stores but Lexington came to the rescue with The Gun Warehouse and Supply. This place was huge, clean, and had quite a few knowledgeable personnel to help with the weapons and they had quite a few red shirts to help with the range. They even have a ladies night at the range - Hello! Mama's night out - that's all I'm saying.
We ate a lot of food here and here and the kids did relatively well. Petra, being a typical 2 year old, wouldn't stay in her seat after she was done eating. ugh. So we left relatively soon after she was done eating. Thank God she is a slower eater than the rest of us.
Here we are at the Lexington Horse Park. I was trying to take a nice photo of us but Ryan.....and then Aletheia photobomed us. Her father taught her well. The Horse park had horses - as you might expect. The kiddos got to ride some ponies, we saw an international horse show which is basically horses from around the world running around ring, and then some baby miniature horses. The sun was blazing at whopping 91 degrees by 9am so we were dripping buckets.
The next day we explored the Red River Gorge. In the picture we are playing in a waterfall next to the Nada Tunnel. It was the most beautiful part of Kentucky we have seen yet. So maybe there is hope for this place. Ha!
After exploring a bit of the gorge we went to the slow moving and clear Indian Creek. There was only a grounds crew at the campsite so we had the whole place to ourselves. The kids had fun chasing after "lobsters" a.k.a crawdads and throwing rocks. I think we will try to camp alongside this creek further down in the summer. I will have to make another post on how to camp with youngins. I have picked up a trick or two that has helped us tremendously. Last year we camped for 2 weeks in Oregon with a 4, 2, and 1 year old and a large dog. It was a blast!
Right after this picture was taken Aletheia lost her shoe and Ambrose dove into the water to fetch it and then Aletheia declared Ambrose her "hero forever and ever." This is a big deal people. During last years camping trip, Ambrose fell into a creek and nearly drowned. He was at the bottom of the deepest part of the creek when Ryan pulled him up. Since then he has been scared of creeks and rivers. After he plucked himself from the Indian Creek he acted as if nothing happened. We tried to not to get too excited about the whole ordeal but we are glad to see he is moving on from that horrible event. I think the swim lessons and numerous trips to the pool have helped him a great deal.
Ok If you made it this far Hooray! I'd hug you if I could.. You weren't bored to death or maybe you were and just stuck with me...either way. Thanks :)
Peace people. I am leaving this blogging joint and going to stop neglecting my children who so desperately need my attention. Until next time.
